6/15/11 -- Sen. Shelby introduces legislation that provides tax relief to the families, communities and businesses that fell victim to the tornadoes and other natural disasters that plagued the Southeastern part of the country.

5/9/11 -- Sen. Shelby returns to Alabama with HUD secretary Shaun Donovan to further asses housing needs in the wake of the tornadoes.

5/3/11 -- Sen. Shelby commends the generosity and resilience of fellow Alabamians and Americans in a speech delivered on the Senate floor.

5/2/11 -- Sen. Shelby discusses recovery efforts in the state of Alabama as well as the death of Osama Bin Laden on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' and Bloomberg News.

5/1/11 -- Sen. Shelby discusses his tour of tornado-damaged counties in Alabama in a Fox News interview.

4/29/11 -- At Sen. Shelby's request, President Obama visits Alabama to view firsthand the destruction caused by tornadoes. Sen. Shelby, Governor Bentley, and President Obama survey damage in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Shelby continues his tour of storm-damaged areas traveling north to Cullman and DeKalb Counties.

Additionally, Senator Shelby wrote a letter to FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate requesting that the agency provide Individual Assistance to all tornado victims.

4/28/11 -- In immediate response to deadly tornadoes that struck various regions of Alabama, U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) last night requested that Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator W. Craig Fugate accompany him to the state today to assess the damage and expedite emergency response and recovery efforts. Sen. Shelby and Administrator Fugate are now in Alabama, and will visit various affected areas throughout the state during the day. Immediately upon arrival in Alabama, Shelby, Fugate and Governor Robert Bentley are scheduled to travel to Tuscaloosa and Jefferson Counties by helicopter to survey the storm damage from the air. Shelby issued the following statement:

“My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this terrible disaster. I extend my deepest condolences to those who have lost friends and family as a result of the tornadoes. I am pleased that Administrator Fugate agreed to accompany me to Alabama immediately to survey the damage and spearhead the response. I will continue to do everything in my power to see that the resources of the federal government are leveraged and coordinated to meet our state’s needs."
