Van Hollen Statement on July Jobs Report

Aug 3, 2012 Issues: Jobs

Washington, DCToday Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the Department of Labor’s July Jobs Report announcing that the U.S. economy added 163,000 jobs in July, including 172,000 private sector jobs and 25,000 manufacturing jobs:

“While today’s jobs numbers beat the expectations of many economists, there is still much work to be done. Our first priority must be putting Americans back to work. Unfortunately, Congressional Republicans have blocked progress at every turn – in fact, we’ve voted more than 30 times to repeal the health care reform law but not once on the President’s jobs bill, which would provide key investments in infrastructure and support needed job creation here at home. The GOP also voted this week against middle class tax cuts. Republicans in Congress should be focused on creating jobs for the American people and providing tax relief for working families. Instead, they are marching to the obstructionist tune of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who said that his ‘single most important’ goal was defeating President Obama.”
