Washington, DC – Representative Steve Rothman (D-NJ), a member of the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee, released the following statement:
Today, we honor the selfless men and women who have courageously fought for our freedom. The sacrifice of our veterans and their families is a debt we can never fully repay, but it is one that we as a nation must continually work toward fulfilling. We will continue to show our respect, gratitude, and continue to deliver benefits to the millions of veterans who we have the honor of calling heroes.
To that end, I am proud to have voted in favor of the Post 9/11 GI Bill for the 21st Century, which provides a full, four-year college education for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. I have also fought to extend the same measures to all children of fallen soldiers and expand the educational benefits to our veterans to ensure that they have a bright future after their military service.
On Veterans Day and throughout the year, we must remember the sacrifice America’s warfighters and their families make every day. There is no more important job than keeping our nation safe and secure, and they deserve the very best that our country has to offer.
