Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14), a member of the House Budget Committee, today assailed House passage of Democratic legislation establishing the largest budget and tax hike in U.S. history.
Mack said:
“With their reckless budget, the Democrats have proven yet again that they are the party of more taxing, more spending, and more government. Their budget is not only irresponsible, it is a slap in the face for hardworking families and businesses across the country.
“The Democrats are imposing the largest tax hike on American taxpayers by letting the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts expire – tax cuts that have fueled our country’s economic growth, created over 7.6 million new jobs, and increased the child tax credit for nearly 1.6 million families in Florida. What’s more, they have turned a blind eye to the looming alternative minimum tax crisis, which, if not addressed soon, will spell disaster for Americans from almost every walk of life.
“At $2.9 trillion, the Democrats’ budget is also the largest in American history. I have said time and again that Washington doesn’t have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem. We can provide the key services people need, but at a price we can afford – but the Democrats’ budget threatens the long-term freedom, security and prosperity of our nation.
“The people of Southwest Florida and the rest of the nation deserve a government that taxes less, spends less and regulates less. Sadly, the Democrats’ budget delivers nothing more than a bloated and intrusive government that will leave our children and grandchildren footing the massive bill.”
