Washington, Jul 25 -

Over the past several years, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued burdensome rules and regulations at an alarming rate, hurting farmers and agricultural producers across America who are struggling to keep up with the government’s torrent pace of intrusion. Currently, the agriculture industry employs over 20 million people in the United States and is one of the nation’s largest exporters. However, recent regulations and interpretations stemming from the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act continue to threaten to upset farming practices for producers of all sizes.

Administrative decisions regulating this industry are more appropriately determined by the states and the communities involved. Representative Ann Marie Buerkle’s (R-NY) Let Farmers Farm Act of 2012 will protect farmers from the EPA’s one-size-fits-all policies by allowing states and territories to ‘opt-out’ of compliance with a provision of the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, or the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, or any rule or regulation resulting from those acts if it is deemed overly burdensome to a farmer or other agricultural producer by the Governor or appropriate State Chief Executive Officer.

H.R. 6075 will enable states to roll back the tide of current federal regulations harming the farming community and protect them against potentially harmful intrusion by the federal government in the future.
