Congressional Art Contest 2012

I would like to invite all high school art students to participate in the Congressional Art Competition.  Each year many high school aged students from around the country enter their artwork in this contest.  Each participating congressional district chooses a winning entry, and the winning piece of art is then displayed for an entire year in the Cannon Tunnel to the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C., along with the winners from all the other congressional districts across the country.

The winner in our district will be provided with two round trip airline tickets to the Baltimore, Maryland airport so that he/she can attend the ribbon cutting ceremony and see his/her artwork displayed at the Capitol. What an exciting opportunity for a developing artist!

The exact guidelines for artwork submissions can be found HERE on the Congressional Art Competition website. This site also provides other pertinent details such as the student release form, etc.  Any other questions that you may have can be answered by calling my Jackson District Office at 517-780-9075.

The final deadline for submission is May 1, 2012.  The winning work of art will be selected shortly afterward.  The artwork should be unframed when it is submitted.  Framing will be arranged after the winner is selected, and the piece will be shipped to Washington D.C.  The size of the artwork should not exceed 24”x 24”.  The student or teacher may either bring the artwork to my District Office at 800 West Ganson Street in Jackson or you may call my office and arrange to have one of my staff members pick it up on or before May 1st.  We cannot accept any submissions after the deadline.

All other submissions from our district high schools will be displayed in my District Office for a period of time so that constituents can enjoy them. Good luck!
