Leake County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of 2010, the population was 23,805. Its county seat is Carthage. The center of population of Mississippi is located in Leake County, in the town of Lena . Leake County is named for Walter Leake, the Governor of Mississippi from 1822 to 1825.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 585 square miles of which 583 square miles is land and 3 square miles is water.
