This Saturday marks the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month, where we take time to celebrate our Hispanic brothers and sisters, and their irreplaceable contributions to our communities and country.  

This nation is a remarkable fabric woven together by the cultures of Americans from all heritages and backgrounds.  The story of this great country is made all the more complete by those who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico, Latin America, South America, and the Caribbean.  Generations of Hispanic Americans have cultivated economic prosperity and cultural vitality in this country, and I’m humbled by the opportunity to honor this incredible community. 

 
There are more than 52 million Hispanics living in this country today, with nearly 15 million residing in California.  I want those individuals to know that at times, as an Asian American, I too have been made to feel like an outsider in the country I call home.  While our backgrounds are different, I understand the tough obstacles they face.  I want them to know that as we work in Washington to pursue economic justice, racial equality, immigration reform, and a more perfect union, they are never far from my thoughts.  I look forward to the work we can accomplish together.  Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

Este sábado empezará el Mes Nacional del Patrimonio Hispano, durante este tiempo celebramos a nuestros hermanos y hermanas hispanos.  También celebramos la contribución irremplazable que los hispanos han echo a nuestras comunidades y país.   

 
Este país es excepcional por la unidad de las diferentes culturas y patrimonios Americanos. La historia de este país se dignifica más cuando su gente proviene de lugares como España, México, Latino América y el Caribe. Generaciones de Hispano-Americanos han sembrado prosperidad económica y vitalidad cultural en este país. Me siento humilde por tener la orgullosa oportunidad de celebrar la comunidad hispana. 

 
Hay más de 52 millones Hispanos viviendo en este país, con cerca a 15 millones que viven en California. Yo quiero decirle a esas personas, que yo también, como un Asiático-Americano, me han hecho sentir como si yo fuera un extraño en este país que yo llamo mi hogar. Mientras nuestros orígenes son diferentes, yo entiendo los obstáculos que la gente hispana enfrenta  y siempre los tengo mente.  Quiero que la comunidad hispana sepa, mientras yo y otros congresistas trabajamos en Washington D.C. por justicia económica, igualdad racial, reforma de emigración y mejorar nuestro país; yo voy a tener a mis amigos y amigas en mente. Espero con interés al trabajo que los dos podemos  cumplir juntos.  Feliz Mes del Patrimonio Hispano!
