Shuster Disappointed in Supreme Court's Decision to Uphold ‘Obamacare'

Washington In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court handed down its opinion upholding almost all of the provisions of President Obama’s Affordable Care Act, including the individual mandate. The Court ruled the mandate is a tax and therefore constitutional under Congress’ taxing powers. Congressman Bill Shuster is disappointed with the Court’s decision, and will continue to work with House Republicans to fully repeal Obamacare and enact common sense reforms that protect Americans’ access to the care they need.

“I am committed to repealing and replacing Obamacare with common sense reforms that will reduce costs and make health care accessible for every American. Obamacare is a gross overreach of power by the Administration and I will continue to work to repeal this law.”

“Despite the Court’s ruling today, Obamacare is still a job killer for the American people. Millions of American families will lose their current healthcare coverage and be forced into new government-run healthcare programs.”

“Families should be able to make their own choices in health care, visit the doctor of their choosing and receive the health care they feel is best. Those decisions should not be made by bureaucrats in Washington.”
