LABOR DEPARTMENT RELEASES $1 MILLION TO BLACKHAWK TECHNICAL COLLEGE FOR JOB TRAINING, KOHL ANNOUNCES

Senator Sought Funding to Help Displaced GM and Affiliated Workforce

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senator Herb Kohl announced that Blackhawk Technical College received $1 million from the U.S. Department of Labor today for career and technical education training programs.  Kohl included the funding in the FY10 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Bill to help Janesville area dislocated and incumbent workers with job training.

“GM’s decision to leave Janesville left thousands of skilled workers unemployed and had a domino effect on employment in related industries.  As a result, demand for Blackhawk’s highly regarded job training programs skyrocketed.  This investment will help students direct their talents in new directions toward growth industries,” Kohl said.

This federal funding will provide tuition and books so that dislocated and incumbent workers in the Janesville area can train for new careers.
