KOHL DIRECTS $1 MILLION FOR JOB TRAINING PROGRAMS IN THE GREATER GREEN BAY AREA

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, US Senator Herb Kohl announced he included $1 million in federal funds for job training programs in the greater Green Bay area as part of the FY11 Labor, Health and Humans Services, and Education (LHHS) Appropriations bill.  Senator Kohl is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and identified these projects as priorities for funding.

"Too many Wisconsin residents are unemployed through no fault of their own.  Searching for a job can be stressful, time consuming and frustrating." Kohl said. "Fox Valley Technical College and Lakeshore Technical College have been leaders in job training and have given many students the skills and jump start they need to get back on their feet."

The funds secured by Kohl include:

$250,000 for Fox Valley Technical College

This project will expand the Truck Driving Program at Fox Valley Technical College, providing greater access through evening and weekend courses.  The College will train displaced and underemployed workers as truck drivers, increasing the number of trained family-wage earning truck drivers available to the area by 40 per year.

$750,000 for Lakeshore Technical College

This project will provide the advanced manufacturing lab equipment necessary at Lakeshore Technical College to expand their Center for Manufacturing Excellence.  Manufacturing is the largest employment sector in the area served by the College.  By providing training with the newest technologies, the Center for Manufacturing Excellence will supply the community with high skilled workers, meeting the growing demand for qualified manufacturing workers in Wisconsin.

The Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Bill, which includes this project, will next be considered before the full Senate for approval.
