KOHL ANNOUNCES $75,000 FOR GREEN BAY LAW ENFORCEMENT TECHNOLOGY UPGRADES

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Herb Kohl announced that he has secured $75,000 for the City of Green Bay Police Department as part of the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies (CJS) Appropriations bill, which was passed by the Senate Appropriations Committee today. Senator Kohl, a member of the Appropriations Committee, identified the project as a priority for funding.

"The technology upgrades provided by this funding will allow Green Bay police officers more time in the field protecting the community while helping streamline investigations. This funding gives the police officers the equipment they need to do their jobs safely and effectively," Kohl said.

The Green Bay Police Department will purchase two mobile technologies that will allow officers to make identifications while staying on patrol:  (1) Four mobile identification terminals to enable law enforcement officers to do on-the-spot identification checks and instantly search federal, state and local databases of photographs and fingerprints while in the field; and (2) Two Automatic License Plate Recognition cameras for squad cars.  The cameras will capture license plate images within view of the squad car, instantaneously compare them to numerous databases, and immediately notify the officer in the car of any irregularities.

The Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill, which includes this project, will next be considered before the full Senate for approval.
