KOHL ANNOUNCES $8.3 MILLION FOR WISCONSIN AIR NATIONAL GUARD FIRE STATION IN MILWAUKEE

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, US Senator Herb Kohl announced $8.3 million in federal funds for the Wisconsin Air National Guard as part of the FY2011 Military Construction Appropriations Bill, which was approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee. Senator Kohl is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and has identified this project as a priority for funding.

This funding will help replace the existing fire station with a new station to meet the fire, crash, and rescue needs of the 128th Refueling Wing and the local airport. The current fire station is too small to safely protect the 128th Refueling Wing. Firefighters and equipment are spread across multiple buildings around the airport, causing delays in emergency response time. Fire trucks must be stored outside and exposed to the elements due to the lack of space, which causes the trucks to break down more frequently and increases maintenance costs.

"Beginning in 1947 the 128th Refueling Wing has provided an invaluable service protecting the people of Wisconsin and the United States. In return we need to protect them with an up to date fire and rescue station. The new station will keep airmen safe while meeting the needs of the base and the airport," Kohl said.

The Military Construction Appropriations Bill now goes before the Senate for approval.
