KOHL WANTS CONDITIONS ON COMCAST/NBC DEAL, WEIGHS IN WITH DoJ & FCC

U.S. Senator Herb Kohl, chairman of the Senate Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights Subcommittee, today contacted the Assistant Attorney General of the Department of Justice (DoJ) Antitrust Division and the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regarding the proposed acquisition by Comcast of a controlling interest in NBC Universal. Kohl held a hearing on the proposed acquisition on February 4, 2010 and has been investigating its impact on the nation's media landscape. In today's letter to the DoJ and FCC, Kohl said, "….our examination of this transaction has led us to conclude that Comcast's acquisition of NBC Universal has the potential for serious anticompetitive and anti-consumer effects in at least three respects."
