KOHL ANNOUNCES OVER $64 MILLION IN LOAN ASSISTANCE FOR WISCONSIN RURAL BUSINESSES

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Herb Kohl announced that nine Wisconsin businesses will receive loan assistance to support economic development in Wisconsin though the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development's Business and Industry Guaranteed Loan Program.  The funding announced today was made available by the American Recovery and Investment Act.

"As the Chairman of the Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee, I worked hard to secure funding for the Business and Industry Guaranteed Loan Program in the American Recovery and Investment Act," Kohl said. "The funding announced today will help spur economic development in rural communities by creating and retaining quality jobs that will help with economic recovery in Wisconsin."

Kohl voted in favor of the 2008 farm bill, which reauthorized the Business and Industry Guaranteed Loan Program. As a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, Kohl provided funding for this program through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  In the recently passed FY10 agriculture spending bill, Kohl provided $2.979 billion for programs important to rural communities that will create quality jobs, build vital infrastructure and help local business including food and dairy related industries.
