SENATE APPROVES $9 MILLION FOR OSHKOSH CORP., KOHL ANNOUNCES

Today, the US Senate approved Senator Herb Kohl's request to direct $9 million in federal funds toward equipping the US Marine Corps's Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacements (MTVR) with onboard vehicle power kits at Oshkosh Corp. as part of the Senate's FY2010 Defense Appropriations Bill. Senator Kohl is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and has identified this project as a priority for funding.

"Oshkosh has proven itself in the past by successfully assembling MVTR trucks for the United States military," Kohl said. "As they continue to provide high quality products, this funding will allow them to develop trucks that carry generators allowing the military to transport more power with less hassle."

This project will develop vehicles that carry their own generators so that the Marine Corps does not have to tow generators, or carry generators to power equipment. These vehicles save energy and reduce the amount of equipment the military has to carry into a combat zone.

The funding measure was passed by the Senate, and now goes to the President for final approval.
