SENATE APPROVES $925,300 TO EXPAND THE SHEBOYGAN COUNTY MEMORIAL AIRPORT, KOHL ANNOUNCES

WASHINGTON, DC - The US Senate today approved Senator Herb Kohl's request to direct $925,300 toward the expansion of the Sheboygan County Memorial Airport in the FY10 Omnibus Appropriations Bill. Senator Kohl, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, identified this project as a priority for funding.

"This funding will ensure the safety of aircraft coming into the Sheboygan County Memorial Airport," Kohl said. "Business in the Sheboygan area rely on the safety and efficiency of the airport, and I'm pleased that this project serves both the local business and residential communities."

The Sheboygan County Memorial Airport is one of the ten busiest airports in the state. Some of the local business users include Kohler Corp., Windway, Bemis Corp., Richardson Industries, and Aerometric. This project will reconstruct a portion of the taxiway parallel to the primary runway. The parallel taxiway is a vital element in avoiding runway aircraft collisions. Federal funding assistance is needed to maintain the necessary level of utility and safety. The taxiways are over 14 years old with cracking, rutting and a depression. The runway also needs pavement overlays to accommodate heavier aircraft.

The funding measure was passed by the Senate, and now goes to the President for final approval.
