USDA ANNOUNCES FEBRUARY MILC PAYMENT

WASHINGTON - The USDA announced today the February MILC payment of $1.51 per hundredweight. The feed cost adjuster, which Senator Kohl fought to include in the 2008 Farm Bill, provides increased support under the MILC program when feed costs rise. Without the feed cost adjuster, the MILC payment would be $1.34 per hundredweight. The February MILC payment will go out to farmers in early April totaling roughly $150 million.

“The MILC program is essential to help sustain farmers and encourage growth through this tough economic time when milk prices are low,” Kohl said. “Dairy farming is a staple industry in Wisconsin and I have been working hard to help protect dairy farmers and make it easier for new farmers to enter the industry.”
