KOHL STATEMENT ON GM CEO MEETING ON FATE JANESVILLE PLANT

Calls for Consideration of 'Every Option Available' to Avoid Closure

Washington, DC - Today, Senator Herb Kohl met with General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner and discussed alternatives to avoid closing the GM plant in Janesville.  Senator Kohl was joined by Senator Russ Feingold and Representative Tammy Baldwin (WI-02) for the meeting, which took place in Washington, DC.

"For the sake of the community and families who will be devastated by the closure of General Motors' factory in Janesville, it is vital we pursue every option available to ensure this productive plant stays open and the jobs and livelihoods of its highly skilled workers are kept safe," Kohl said.  "Today, we met with GM's CEO and pressed him reconsider the decision and use this opportunity to show the same loyalty to the plant's dedicated employees that they have brought to the job every day for generations."

The delegation underscored its support for an aggressive incentive package, which details the business advantages that Janesville's workers and location can offer GM should the company continue operations at the present plant.
