STATEMENT OF KOHL, FEINGOLD, PETRI, KAGEN FOLLOWING THEIR MEETING WITH NEWPAGE CEO ON KIMBERLY PAPER MILL

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, US Senators Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold, and Congressmen Tom Petri and Steve Kagen, met on Capitol Hill with NewPage Corp. CEO Mark Suwyn, to discuss the future plans for the Kimberly Paper Mill, which was closed on Sept. 8.  In the meeting, the lawmakers urged the CEO to bring papermaking back to Kimberly and pursued the possibility of a third party purchasing the mill, as well as ways the congressional delegation can be helpful to bringing about these results.  The statement follows:

At our meeting with NewPage CEO Mark Suwyn, we strongly urged him and company officials to consider every option for getting the Kimberly Mill workforce employed again and for preserving the jobs at NewPage's other Wisconsin facilities.

We also voiced our commitment to helping NewPage get the International Trade Commission to re-examine the company's case against the illegal dumping of paper products by foreign producers.   We will continue to do everything we can on behalf of the hard-working men and women of Kimberly and provide them with the support they need.
