Marchant Statement on Passage of the Repeal of Obamacare Act

Washington, Jul 11 - Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) issued the following statement after voting for the Repeal of Obamacare Act which passed the House with bipartisan support, 244-185.

“Today I voted to repeal President Obama’s misguided healthcare law because it fails to reduce healthcare costs or improve quality of care. Instead, it inflates government bureaucracy and kills jobs under the burden of unnecessary regulations and stifling taxes. I voted against Obamacare in 2010, and since then we have discovered that it will cost billions of dollars more to the U.S. taxpayers than originally estimated. It will also take $500 billion away from Medicare over ten years and force taxpayers to foot the bill for elective abortions.

“I believe that all Americans should be able to access the quality healthcare of their own choosing. Obamacare, however, is not the kind of market-friendly, affordable, or sensible reform that we need to meet this goal. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to join the House in voting for repeal so that we can clear the path for new and stronger ideas.”
