Transportation Transportation Our nation’s founders recognized the contributions that transportation systems make to promoting economic growth in our country by including establishing roads as one of the duties of Congress under Article I, Section 8. America’s air, land and marine transportation systems were designed for accessibility and efficiency. Unfortunately, we learned from the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, DC that these two characteristics that make our transportation networks vulnerable to terrorist attack. While improving the security of America’s transportation infrastructure is difficult, I have supported reasonable measures that are working to deter terrorists. In addition to transportation security, you can rest assured that I will continue to keep federal money from gas taxes coming back to the Sixth District of Maryland for road and highway maintenance and improvements as a major priority in my agenda. It is crucial to modernize and maintain our infrastructure to support economic growth from commerce and trade.
