SAN JOSE, CA (Today) – U.S. Representative Michael Honda (CA-15) will host a Small Business and Nonprofit Resource Seminar on Friday, April 9, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., at the Silicon Valley Bank’s Kellogg Auditorium, located at 3005 Tasman Drive, Santa Clara (cross street: Old Ironsides Drive).  Over 100 local business leaders interested in accessing capital, funding, or loans for their small business or non-profit organization are expected in attendance.

Rep Honda will keynote the seminar beginning at 9:00 a.m., highlighting the Obama Administration and U.S. Congress’s efforts to improve conditions for small businesses and non-profits through legislation such as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Small Business and Infrastructure Jobs Tax Act, Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment Act, and the Affordable Health Care for America Act.

“Hosting the Small Business and Nonprofit Resource Seminar for the second year,” said Rep Honda, “I want to make sure Silicon Valley’s small businesses are getting everything they need to make a strong and lasting recovery. This is my top priority in Congress.  I know that fostering a business-friendly environment for our community’s small entrepreneurs, who comprise the bulk of our country’s gross domestic product, is absolutely vital in ensuring economic security for the entire nation.”   

Presenters at the 2010 Small Business and Nonprofit Seminar include representatives from the IRS Small Business Liaison, David and Lucile Packard Foundation, Department of Health and Human Services Grant Manager, Technology Credit Union, TMC Development Working Solutions (SBA Lender) and more.

In May 2009, when the economy was still struggling, U.S. Rep Mike Honda held a very successful Small Business Resource fair focused on providing CA-15 constituents with the resources needed to improve their business.  These resources included small business counseling provided by Silicon Valley SCORE, the Small Business Development Center of Silicon Valley, and the Minority Business Development Agency, as well as information and updates about the impact of the Recovery Act from the IRS Small Business expert and the Director of SBA Regional IX Office in San Francisco.
