Rep Michael Honda Hosts US-China Green Energy Council PDF Print E-mail

WASHINGTON, DC – “As US and China governments engage in strategic and economic talks in this week, the US-China Green Energy Council is drawing attention to the unparalleled potential for clean energy partnerships between our two countries. As economic powerhouses, the resultant US-China carbon footprint calls for joint leadership capable of moving forward the global climate commitment, while making green technology affordable and accessible for the most economically underdeveloped nations. The Council’s call for clean energy is helping to make sure this leadership happens.” - Congressman Michael Honda

Background:
The US-China Green Energy Council (UCGEC) delegation is visiting Washington DC July 27-30, with support from UCGEC Honorary Chairman, and U.S. Congressman Mike Honda. The delegation will meet with over 20 congresspersons, senators, and members from the Obama Administration regarding energy and climate change. The objectives of the delegation are to:

• Enhance connection with the U.S. Congress and Government
• Exchange thoughts on the US-China cleantech collaboration
• Seek advice on the role of NGO in the US-China cleantech collaboration
• Report UCGEC projects and accomplishments
• Share UCGEC view and plan for the future
• Invite Honorary Co-Chair (US) and speakers for the UCGEC Annual Conference in Oct. in Silicon Valley

Members of the UCGEC are discussing how the United States and China face daunting challenges in the areas of security, long-term economic sustainability and global warming, particularly how energy is at the center of all three of these concerns and is perhaps the most important issue that must be solved in the coming decades. USCGEC members will discuss ideas for increasing energy efficiency in the short term and developing sustainable, carbon-neutral energy sources over the long term. China and the U.S., as the world’s top two carbon emitters, need to find ways to collaborate and support each other in the urgent search for a global solution. We both need to develop a cohesive and sustainable collaboration that will yield realistic and effective solutions for achieving energy security, and economic and environmental sustainability.
