Congressman Gets Recognition For Having Town Hall Meeting Via Telephone

    To the editior:
    Recently, I was pleasantly surprised when I received a phone call from Washington, DC (the caller ID said so) from Representative Henry Cuellar's office, giving me the option to participate in a phone town hall meeting. Curious as to what this was about, I pressed the requested phone button and was able to listen to constituents asking questions and/ or expressing concerns and Representative Cuellar's response.
    The topic for that particular town hall meeting was Social Security office was present to answer the more detailed, specific concerns individuals expressed in their questions. This was my first personal experience in seeing (hearing) politics in action i.e. evidence of where a politician is listening and responding to constituent's concerns and opinions in person.
    I applaud Mr. Cuellar for providing this opportunity to Laredo constituents (whether Democrats or Republicans) and I encourage all voters to check his website ( http://cuellar.house.gov/ ) for future meetings and topics. If people get informed and involved about issues that affect all of our lives, perhaps we have a chance that Washington will listen. Thanks again, Representative Cuellar.
