Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations

The Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, the Senate’s premier investigating subcommittee, was originally authorized by Senate Resolution 189 on January 28, 1948. It has a history of conducting bipartisan, indepth investigations into complex issues. The Subcommittee has a broad mandate to investigate government waste, fraud and abuse, corporate misconduct, offshore banking and tax practices, energy markets, and corruption.

Oversight of Government Management

 

The Subcommittee on Oversight of Government Management, the Federal Workforce, and the District of Columbia has jurisdiction over the management of all departments, agencies, and programs of the federal government, including the Management Directorate of the Department of Homeland Security; the Federal Civil Service; national security staffing; relations between the federal government and state and local governments; relations between the federal government and international organizations of which the U.S. is a member; and the District of Columbia.

 

Federal Financial Management

The Subcommittee on Federal Financial Management, Government Information, Federal Services and International Security is tasked with enhancing and protecting many of the services and resources vital to our nation’s governance, security and operations. The Subcommittee’s areas of jurisdiction include overseeing the effectiveness and efficiency of the federal government’s financial management; the federal government’s information technology portfolio management; the effectiveness of national security methods, including agencies’ cyber security efforts; the Archives of the United States; the decennial Census and collection of statistics; and the United States Postal Service.


 

Disaster Recovery and Intergovernmental Affairs

The Subcommittee on Disaster Recovery and Intergovernmental Affairs has oversight authority of the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) activities relating to disaster preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery, including coordination of recovery planning and activities among Federal agencies, state and local governments, non-governmental organizations and the private sector.  It also has oversight authority over DHS’ activities related to supporting state and local fusion centers; community preparedness training and technical assistance programs; homeland security education and outreach programs; private sector preparedness and integration; and coordination with state and local law enforcement on counternarcotics and workforce corruption issues.


 

Contracting Oversight

The Subcommittee on Contracting Oversight has broad oversight authority over all aspects of federal contracting.  The Subcommittee conducts investigations and holds regular hearings to examine past failures, current policies, and how to bring more efficiency, transparency, and accountability to the contracting process.
