Quad Caucus Letter to Speaker Pelosi
Friday April 24, 2009
On April 24th, the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Congressional Black Caucus, Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus submitted a joint letter to Speaker Pelosi. The purpose of the letter was to state that the four Caucuses' support for legislation enacting health care reform firmly hinges on the inclusion of a robust, public health insurance plan, similar to Medicare.
Excerpt: "Addressing our nation’s failed health care system must be a top priority, not just to help individuals and families obtain medical care, but to keep businesses competitive and constrain rising costs that are placing unsustainable burdens on consumers, businesses and federal, state and local governments. We are committed to working with you to pass comprehensive health care reform—which includes a public health insurance plan like Medicare—that guarantees quality, affordable health coverage for all."
