Higgins Announces $412,685 Grant to The Service Collaborative of WNY, Inc.

Funding Will Support Financial Literacy Education

Congressman Brian Higgins announced that The Service Collaborative of WNY, Inc. has been awarded a $412,685 AmeriCorps grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).  The grant will be used to provide financial literacy services to low-income Buffalo residents.

“In today’s economy, it is so important that people have the skills and resources necessary to manage their money and save for the future,” said Congressman Higgins. “I am thankful to have groups like The Service Collaborative of WNY in our community to help provide this valuable service.”

“The Service Collaborative is very excited to continue the work of providing financial literacy in the City of Buffalo,” said Kate Sarata, Executive Director at The Service Collaborative of WNY, Inc. “With this funding we will be able to place 35 full-time AmeriCorps members into service in the 2012-13 year.”

This grant will allow The Service Collaborative of WNY to provide “financial coaches” to low-income Buffalo families with the goal of increasing family and financial stability. 10,000 individuals in Buffalo will have the opportunity to take part in the financial literacy programming.
