Congressman Higgins Announces Passport Day in the USA

Residents Invited to Apply or Renew Passports March 10

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) announced the opportunity for Western New Yorkers to apply for or renew passports at an outreach event being held at the Buffalo Passport Agency at 111 Genesee Street in Buffalo from 10:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday, March 10.

The Buffalo Passport agency provides passport services year round to residents in need of a passport for urgent travel.  During this special event, taking place in conjunction with Passport Day in the USA, residents do not need to necessarily demonstrate immediate travel plans to utilize the agencies passport services.

“With prime travel season quickly approaching this is a perfect opportunity for local residents to stop in and easily walk through the passport process,” said Higgins.

Higgins led the fight to bring a passport facility to Western New York in the wake of increased security requirements implemented as part of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI).  Travel rules now require all U.S. citizens to present a passport or other valid travel document at all land-based ports of entry, including WNY’s four border crossings, which are among the busiest in the nation. Prior to the opening of the Buffalo facility, Western New Yorkers in urgent need of a passport would have to travel to New York City.

The U.S. State Department was the first tenant in the $10 million Genesee Gateway historic adaptive reuse project.

Congressman Higgins’ office will also be on hand at the event.
