Internship Program

Rep. McCarthy’s Internship Program

A Congressional Internship can be a wonderful opportunity for young men and women to learn about public service and the legislative process, while gaining insight into how the federal government runs on a daily basis.  Internships are available in both the District Office, located in Garden City, and in Washington, DC.

**We are currently accepting resumes for the Spring 2013 Term**

Washington DC Internship Program

Congresswoman McCarthy’s Washington, D.C. office is currently seeking full-time and part-time interns. Qualified candidates will possess an interest in the legislative process and current policy issues, exceptional writing and communication skills, and the desire to work in a fast-paced, exciting environment.

Responsibilities will include drafting correspondence to constituents, assisting with research projects and press outreach, leading tours of the U.S. Capitol building, and some administrative work. Interns will also have the opportunity to attend briefings, hearings, and other events on Capitol Hill.

Ties to New York State—especially the 4th District or Long Island—are preferred, but not required. Schedules will depend on the intern's class schedule.  If you wish to intern in the D.C. office, please send a cover letter, a resume, and a short writing sample to Sarah Geiger at sarah.geiger@mail.house.gov or fax it to (202) 225-5758.  Please call (202) 225-5516 with any questions.

Garden City Internship Program

The Garden City office accepts applications from high school seniors or college students who possess an interest in public service, with excellent communication skills.  Intern responsibilities in the district office include communicating with constituents, writing constituent letters, performing research requests, and administrative work such as answering phones, opening and distributing mail, folding and stuffing envelopes, and logging in mail.  Preference will be given to students whose primary residence falls within New York’s Fourth Congressional District.

If you wish to intern in the Garden City office, please send a cover letter, resume, and a one (1) to two (2) page writing sample to Keisha Miller at Keisha.Miller@mail.house.gov or fax to (516) 739-2973.  Please call (516) 739-3008 with any questions.
