2012 Artistic Discovery

The 2012 Congressional Art Competition, “An Artistic Discovery,” is on the move.  Once again, our exhibition will be shown at Adelphi University.  Your students’ artwork will be displayed in Adelphi’s art gallery in the Ruth Harley University Center.  The winning piece will be exhibited by the Architect of the Capitol in the pedestrian tunnel between the Capitol and the Cannon House Office Building, the most-traveled corridor in the Capitol, for an entire year, June 2012 to May 2013.

To celebrate the 16th year of the 4th Congressional District’s participation in “Artistic Discovery,” I will host an art forum at Adelphi on Tuesday, May 29, 2012.  During the forum, I will announce the winner, who is invited to the national ceremonies of this competition in Washington, DC.

For interested students whose school resides within the 4th Congressional District, please reach out to your school’s art teacher or Art Department Chair.  The student’s school must reside within the 4th Congressional District in order to be eligible for consideration.  The school’s art teachers have received information and will be able to provide you with the student release formsand framing guidelines. Only three (3) entries from each school will be accepted, so the art department will make their own arrangements to select the entries that will represent the school.

Please double-check the size and weight of the piece before sending the entry to the Garden City office. Due to wide participation of Member offices across the nation, framed work larger than the specified dimensions will be turned away.

Each student should fill out the Student Information Release form and copy it; send one copy to my office at 300 Garden City Plaza, Suite #200, Garden City, NY, 11530 or faxed to 516-739-2973; and please attach the second copy to the back of the artwork.  The Student Information Release form must be received in my office by Friday, March 30, 2012.  The artwork should be delivered to my office no later than Friday, April 27, 2012.

Please contact my district office if you have any questions at 516-739-3008.
