The Obama Administration Continues to Refuse to Tell the American People What Really Happened in Benghazi, Libya, Ros-Lehtinen Says

(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, today made the following statement regarding the Obama Administration’s continued failure to provide a clear and concise record of the events that occurred before, during, and after the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya that resulted in the deaths of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens, U.S Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith, and U.S. embassy security personnel Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods.  Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

"Over six weeks have passed since the attack in Benghazi and the Obama Administration still hasn’t leveled with the American people.

"We’ve been treated to lots of feeble explanations that later have been disproved by new revelations. 

“We’ve seen the Administration flip-flop and split hairs as to what it knew prior to, during, and in the aftermath of the attack on our consulate in Benghazi.

“The Administration simply hasn’t come clean about what it knew and when, and ultimately what they did about it. 

“Despite several attempts to get answers, the Administration is still keeping Congress and the American people in the dark as to what really happened.  The American people expect and deserve better."

NOTE:  As part of the Committee on Foreign Affairs' oversight over State Department operations, Chairman Ros-Lehtinen sent a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on October 15, 2012 raising a number of critical issues about the process of assessing the security needs of U.S. embassies and personnel and policy towards host governments before and after the September 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.  Chairman Ros-Lehtinen joined with other Chairmen of the national security committees of the House to raise classified matters shortly after the attacks.
