Nebraska's Senator Ben Nelson remains committed to strengthening the agricultural economy and supporting and preserving rural communities and the rural way of life. He demonstrated this commitment through his work helping to draft and pass the 2008 Farm Bill - the Food, Conservation and Energy Act. This title reflects the importance of crafting farm policy that balances our food and feed needs with our goals for growing the biofuels industry. Senator Nelson worked to fashion an agricultural policy that strengthens American agriculture for the 21st Century.

With 1 in 3 jobs in Nebraska tied to agriculture, Nelson is committed to increasing opportunities for family farmers and ranchers to make a livable income off their land. He believes our national agriculture policy must strengthen our family farms and rural economies, enhance the nation's renewable fuels sector, secure America's food supply, expand and diversify America's agriculture, and preserve our rural habitats for generations to come.

Nelson is a member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry. He has used his position on the committee to push initiatives to promote agriculture production, including a strong safety net for producers; a permanent disaster relief fund; diversified use and development of renewable fuels, including ethanol, cellulosic ethanol and biogas; and reforms to ensure that farm payments go to producers.

Senator Nelson will continue to fight to ensure a strong agriculture economy for years to come.
