Buffalo-Niagara Medical Campus

Discovery Born in WNY

In 1898, Buffalo brought cancer research to the world.  Roswell Park was the nation’s first comprehensive cancer center, and we have been a national leader ever since.  Today, with the ever expanding Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC), we see enormous potential for Buffalo to emerge as a medical center of excellence for the nation.

Innovation as a tool for Economic Development HWI.jpg

The Buffalo-Niagara Medical Campus in downtown Buffalo brings together researchers, academics, and medical practitioners at a single location.   The research and treatment being conducted there by Roswell Park, the Hauptman-Woodward Institute and others is groundbreaking.  But BNMC is not just a national asset, it is also a tremendous economic asset to the local economy that supports over 8,500 jobs and is continuing to create new good-paying jobs and will help create new business investments moving forward.  It is revitalizing Buffalo’s downtown core and attracting scientists and doctors to Western New York in impressive numbers, creating an economic ripple that can turn into a tidal wave if we continue to support it.

Congressman Higgins, a member of the Congressional Cancer Caucus, has been an advocate for increased federal funding Roswell Park and other institutions along the BNMC and vocal supporter for an increased national commitment to cancer research funding.   The only way to reach the goals of eradicating suffering and death due cancer and other deadly disease is to provide the funding that can help us understand the causes, accelerate prevention, improve early detection, develop effective treatments and improve the quality of care for those with cancer.  The Congressman will continue the fight to support today’s research that will lead to tomorrow’s cures.
