Chairman Ross on the Announcement of the Postal Service's Largest Annual Shortfall in History
Reforms are needed desperately

Washington, D.C. – Dennis Ross, chairman of the Subcommittee on the Federal Workforce and Postal Service, issued this statement in response to the Postal Service’s announcement about its fiscal year ending losses:
“Today the Postal Service announced it ended its fiscal year with record losses exceeding $15.9 billion. Today’s announcement underscores the need for Congress to enact bi-partisan, comprehensive postal reform legislation that will overhaul the USPS and put it on a permanent, sound footing for fiscal stability. Earlier this year, the Postal Service already defaulted on its obligation to pay for future retiree health benefits. Unless serious reforms are enacted, taxpayers will be left holding the bill.”
Chairman Ross continued, “We must make a concerted effort to streamline and modernize the Postal Service so it can meet the needs of a 21st Century economy. This is not a partisan issue - the continued viability of the Postal Service is in every American’s interest. My hope during these closing weeks of the 112th Congress is that legislators from both parties can come together and make these changes happen.”
Dennis Ross, son of Bill and Loyola Ross, was born in 1959 and raised in Lakeland, Florida. He graduated from Auburn University and the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. He has served as in-house counsel to the Walt Disney Company and as an associate of the law firm of Holland & Knight. He previously served in the Florida Legislature from 2000 until being term limited in 2008. Dennis and his wife, Cindy Hartley, were married in 1983 and have two sons, Shane and Travis.
In the 112th Congress, Dennis will serve on the Committee on Oversight & Government Reform (Chairman of the Federal Workforce, Postal Service & Labor Policy Subcommittee) as well as the Education & the Workforce and Judiciary Committees.
