STEARNS HOLDING HEARING ON ADMINISTRATION'S IMPLEMENTATION OF A "LINE BY LINE" BUDGET REVIEW TO CUT COSTS

PRESIDENT PROMISED BUDGET REVIEW TO ELIMINATE UNECESSARY, DUPLICATIVE, OR WASTEFUL GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS

WASHINGTON, OCT. 4, 2011 – “Repeatedly, President Obama pledged to conduct a ‘page by page, line by line’ review of the federal budget to cut costs and create new efficiencies,” said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL), Chairman of the   House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.  “Our nation faces a debt crisis, and spending under President Obama has increased by more than 20 percent annually.  I want to see what actions, if any, the Administration has taken to review the federal budget and to reduce spending.”

This is the first in a series of hearings on the budget review process that will focus on the Office of Management and Budget.  The hearing entitled “Administration Efforts on Line-by-Line Budget Review,” will be held on Wednesday, October 5th, at 9:30 AM in Room 3222 RHOB.
