Snowe, Small Business Committee Republicans Make Recommendations to Deficit Reduction Super Committee

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship Ranking Member Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine) today announced that the Republican members of the Committee have transmitted their consensus recommendations regarding deficit reduction legislation to the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, also known as the Super Committee.

“It is my hope that the Super Committee will consider our cost-saving recommendations against the backdrop of an economy in distress, with small businesses reporting an estimated $2 trillion in lost profits and asset valuation since December 2007, and the lowest period of business startups in over a decade,” said Senator Snowe.  “The Super Committee must strike the difficult balance of reducing the deficit by $1.5 trillion over the next ten years, while also bolstering the job creation potential of small businesses, our nation’s job generators.  The Small Business Committee Republicans understand that lowering the tax burden on our nation’s entrepreneurs, slowing the rising cost of health care, and eliminating burdensome regulations constitute the proper course of action in creating an economic environment where private sector small businesses can create jobs and once again thrive, and these priorities form the foundation of our recommendations.”
