Armed Services Committee Legislation

Members of the Armed Services Committee, in accordance to the committee's oversight plan and jurisdiction, consider numerous pieces of legislation throughout the congressional session.

The most comprehensive legislation, the annual National Defense Authorization Act, authorizes the Department of Defense and the national security programs of the Department of Energy.

Additionally, Chairman McKeon has introduced H.R. 3662, the Downpayment to Protect National Security Act, which would pay for one year of defense and non-defense sequestration by requiring a reduction in the federal workforce through attrition.

Legislation that may be considered under suspension of the rules:

H.R. 1339 [PDF] [XML] To amend title 32, United States Code, the body of laws of the United States dealing with the National Guard, to recognize the City of Salem, Massachusetts, as the Birthplace of the National Guard of the United States.
