WASHINGTON, DC – This week, the Youth PROMISE Act (H.R. 1064/S. 435), introduced in the House of Representatives by Representatives Bobby Scott (D-VA) and Mike Castle (R-DE) and in the United States Senate by Senators Bob Casey (D-PA) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME), received it’s 100th House co-sponsor this week.

In the last two weeks, the cities of Pasadena, CA, Philadelphia, PA, Pittsburgh, PA, and Richmond, VA joined the list of cities endorsing the Youth PROMISE Act and encouraging its passage.  They join Los Angeles, CA, Newport News, VA, Hampton, VA, and Santa Fe County, NM as localities that have realized that the best way to deal with the problem of youth violence is to empower localities to implement evidence-based programs that have been proven to prevent crime.

Rep. Scott stated that "these localities recognize that the Youth PROMISE Act makes sense, comports with the research on adolescent brain development, as well as the research on effective crime prevention and intervention, and will yield tremendous savings, according to both financial and life quality measures.  We hope that all concerned about saving children and communities from the ravages of gangs and violence will ask their Congressional representatives to support this vital legislation to prevent crime."
