WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, after voting against legislation (H.R. 6429) that would eliminate the Diversity Visa Program, Representative Xavier Becerra (CA-31), Chairman-elect of the House Democratic Caucus and member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, released the following statement:

"Today's partisan vote is not helpful. If House Republicans are serious about fixing our broken immigration system, this divisive and inferior piece of legislation sends the wrong message to the American people and the Latino community.

"Our entire immigration system is broken and that demands a comprehensive approach to reform. Now is the time to come together and work on a bipartisan solution that respects and values our collective legacy as a nation of immigrants. With a new Congress comes a new opportunity for us to get to work on solutions that move us forward and ensure our nation’s prosperity in today’s global economy."
