Congressional Art Competition

A pencil sketch titled "Olivia" created by Emily Wildhaber of Argyle, Mo., was chosen as the 2012 winner.

Initiated by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982, the Annual Congressional Art Competition is an event that allows high school students from all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories to showcase their artistic ability. The winning entry will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel in the U.S. Capitol for one year. The winner from my congressional district is invited to attend a ceremony in Washington, D.C. to unveil the winning artwork from around the nation.

Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in our congressional district. My office looks forward to seeing the work of the talented students who live in my congressional district.  All high school students are allowed to compete in the competition.

For complete student guidelines, please view the 2012 art competition guidelines. Failure to adhere to competition rules will result in disqualification.

All entries must meet the following criteria:

- Be two dimensional

 - Be no larger than 28 inches wide by 28 inches tall by 4 inches thick

 - Not weigh more than 15 pounds

 - Be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws
