Public-Private Partnership Announces Immediate 40 Percent Cost Reduction for Rapid TB Test

The United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), UNITAID, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced an agreement that will significantly reduce the cost of a new, highly accurate, rapid diagnostic test for tuberculosis (TB). Commemorating National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness

On Wednesday, March 14th , Ambassador Goosby joined a White House event commemorating National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. This multi-agency event discussed the intersection of HIV/AIDS, violence against women, and gender related health disparities. A new PEPFAR initiative to fund small grants to combat violence against women was announced.

On December 1, World AIDS Day, President Obama reiterated the U.S. commitment to PEPFAR and to evidence-based combination prevention. Demonstrating the broad support for U.S. leadership, he spoke at an event hosted by the ONE Campaign and (RED), joining former President George W. Bush, President Bill Clinton, President of Tanzania Jakaya Kikwete, Bono, Alicia Keys, Elton John, Rep. Barbara Lee, Sen. Marco Rubio, Kay Warren and other leaders in the worldwide fight against AIDS.
