Mica Statement on U.S. Supreme Court Ruling in Arizona et al. v. United States

Maitland, FL – Congressman John Mica (FL-07)issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court decision on Arizona et al. v. United States concerning immigration law:

“It was a small victory that the Supreme Court came to a 5-3 decision in the Arizona v. United States ruling which upheld that Arizona could check the immigration status of individuals cited for other offenses if “reasonable suspicion” exists that the person is illegally in the United States.  This was a partial victory, but also a setback for states’ rights to put measures in place to address illegal immigration and go after undocumented workers in the workplace.

As our immigration system continues to fail current citizens and those who wish to immigrate here legally, I will work with my colleagues in Congress to take steps to deal with the Federal Government’s failure to address immigration enforcement and to protect our borders.”
