WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) was inducted into membership of the New Democrat Coalition, becoming the only currently seated Illinois representative to join the congressional organization.

“It is an honor to join the New Democrat Coalition and advocate for our shared vision of economic growth and prosperity through trade, innovation, entrepreneurship, and education,” said Rep. Quigley. “As Congress works to solve the complex economic issues ahead, I am proud to be included in the moderate voice of the New Dems, which offers pragmatic solutions while still maintaining Democratic values like fairness, equality, and opportunity.  In particular, I look forward to working with like-minded members of the Coalition to invest in new green technology and create jobs while simultaneously protecting the environment.”

The New Democrat Coalition is dedicated to maintaining America’s standing as the world’s strongest, most successful nation. Founded in 1997, the New Dems believe firmly in the power of American ingenuity and innovation, and are focused on finding ways to foster and harness this creativity to grow our economy, create new American jobs, and ensure a safer and more secure future for our country.  For more information, please visit the New Dems website at http://ndc.crowley.house.gov.

Rep. Quigley believes the federal government can set the stage for private sector growth by investing in infrastructure, education, and green energy. He is a cosponsor of the American Renewable Energy Production Tax Credit Extension Act, which would provide tax incentives for clean, renewable energy sources and has repeatedly called on Congress to work with the business community to create a national renewable energy plan

He supports a pro-trade agenda that prioritizes export promotion and voted for free trade agreements with South Korea and Panama last year.  The agreement with South Korea was the largest deal made since 1994 and is expected to support 70,000 American jobs.

Guided by principles of the Simpson-Bowles budget alternative, Rep. Quigley has worked across the aisle to push a “3B Budget Plan” that is bipartisan, achieves big deficit reduction, and balances spending cuts with tax reform.  He is also the author of Reinventing Government: The Federal Budget, a report which offers 60 recommendations to save $2 trillion over the next 10 years.
