Rep. Kissell Discusses American Manufacturing at McRae Footwear

Rep. Kissell Discusses American Manufacturing at McRae FootwearMOUNT GILEAD, NC – Representative Larry Kissell (NC-08) visited McRae Footwear on Thursday, meeting with staff and getting a tour of the plant. Kissell addressed a group of employees before his tour, discussing the importance of domestic manufacturing and his work on behalf of enforcement and expansion of the Berry Amendment.

McRae Footwear has manufactured combat boots and military footwear for American troops since 1967. Earlier in the week, they were awarded two new contracts from the Department of Defense to manufacture climate-specific boots for the military.

“I had another great visit and tour at McRae Footwear, and it’s always good to be back on the plant floor while the machines are humming and people are making things,” said Kissell. “I worked 27 years in textiles and I know firsthand the importance of domestic manufacturing for our national economy. By manufacturing in America, we can make products better and more cost effective with a return investment in our economy and communities. The folks at McRae Footwear have worked for more than four decades to supply our military with superior American-made footwear, and I was glad to be able to meet again with these dedicated and patriotic workers.”

McRae Footwear President Victor Karam thanked Kissell for his visit and his steadfast commitment to protecting American industries and promoting domestic manufacturing.

“Our employees were very pleased with the Congressman’s visit,” said Karam. “As a native son of Montgomery County and having worked in textiles, we appreciate his understanding of our industry. Our employees were pleased to hear about his involvement with the Berry Amendment which has kept our business alive in America.  We appreciate him taking the time to meet with us and for all the work he does on behalf of the people of North Carolina.”
