Legislation Description
Andean Trade Preference Extension Act The Andean Trade Preference Extension Act (H.R. 4284), introduced by Representative Charles Rangel, would continue preference programs that have played an important role in the nation’s trade and development efforts for decades.  The bill would extend the Andean Trade Preferences Act (ATPA) and the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) for one year. 
Local Community Radio Act The Local Community Radio Act (H.R. 1147), introduced by Representative Mike Doyle, would allow thousands of community radio stations across the country to begin broadcasting.
Iran Refined Petroleum Sanctions Act The Iran Refined Petroleum Sanctions Act (H.R. 2194), introduced by Representative Howard Berman, would strengthen existing laws regarding Iran sanctions and strengthen their enforcement and implementation.  The bill would amend and reauthorize the Iran Sanctions Act, and mandate that any company be barred from the U.S. market if it:
Charitable Deductions for Haiti Relief The bill to accelerate the income tax benefits for charitable cash contributions for the relief of victims of the earthquake in Haiti (H.R. 4462), introduced by Representative Charles Rangel, would allow individuals who make charitable contributions to victims of the earthquake in Haiti to claim an itemized charitable deduction on their 2009 tax return instead of having to wait until next year to claim these deductions on their 2010 tax return.
Castle Nugent National Historic Site Establishment Act The Castle Nugent National Historic Site Establishment Act (H.R. 3726), introduced by Representative Donna Christensen, would preserve the Castle Nugent Historic Site, one of the remaining pristine landscapes of St. Croix. The bill would preserve 2,900 acres of Caribbean dry forest, extensive coral reef, and substantial black mangrove.
White Mountain Apache Tribe Water Rights Quantification Act The White Mountain Apache Tribe Water Rights Quantification Act (H.R. 1065), introduced by Representative Ann Kirkpatrick, would allow for construction of the Miner Flat Dam and Pipeline in Arizona. This project will provide a much needed drinking water supply to towns on White Mountain Apache tribal lands. The project is critical to those communities, which are constantly threatened with severe shortages, even in good water years.
Taos Pueblo Indian Water Rights Settlement Act The Taos Pueblo Indian Water Rights Settlement Act (H.R. 3254), introduced by Representative Ben Ray Luján, would protect the water rights of the Taos Pueblo, as provided in New Mexico v. Abeyta and New Mexico v. Arellano. The bill would provide the Taos Pueblo with grants and technical assistance to construct, replace, or rehabilitate water infrastructure, to protect the environment associated with the Buffalo Pasture area, and to enhance watershed conditions.
Aamodt Litigation Settlement Act The Aamodt Litigation Settlement Act (H.R. 3342), introduced by Representative Ben Ray Luján, would help provide water certainty for thousands of New Mexicans who often face water shortages. The bill would authorize, ratify, and confirm the Settlement Agreement dated January 19, 2006, among New Mexico, the Pueblos of Nambe, Pojoaque, San Ildefonso, Tesuque, the United States, the City of Santa Fe, and Santa Fe County.
