Legislation Description
Western Hemisphere Drug Policy Commission Act The Western Hemisphere Drug Policy Commission Act (H.R. 2134), introduced by Representative Eliot Engel, would encourage a more holistic strategy to tackling our nation’s drug problem.
Data Accountability and Trust Act The Data Accountability and Trust Act (H.R. 2221), introduced by Representative Bobby Rush, would help fight breaches in data security and help American consumers detect and prevent identity theft. The bill would require companies to implement reasonable and appropriate safeguards to secure personal information and to provide notice to individuals when such information is compromised.
National Park Service Authorities and Corrections Act The National Park Service Authorities and Corrections Act (H.R. 3804), introduced by Representative Paul Tonko, would help the U.S. National Park Services move forward and continue its vital work in preserving our parks, heritage areas, forests, and public lands.
Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act The Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (H.R. 4173), introduced by Representative Barney Frank, consists of a package of reforms that will work together to address the myriad causes – from predatory lending to unregulated derivatives – that led to last year’s meltdown.  The Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act includes the following major provisions:
Tax Extenders The Tax Extenders of 2009 (H.R. 4213), introduced by Representative Charles Rangel, would provide critical tax relief for hardworking families and businesses to help spur economic growth and create jobs.
Consolidated Appropriations Act The Consolidated Appropriations Act (H.R. 3288) would continue funding to vital federal agencies and programs.  This bill makes targeted investments in areas that will rebuild our economy and keep our country safe.  It builds on our long term economic plan to provide short term help for the hardest hit Americans during this economic crisis and long term solutions to grow our economy for years to come.
Jobs for Main Street Act The country is struggling to overcome the longest and deepest economic downturn since the Great Depression.  With eight million jobs lost and 15 million people still out of work, the number of unemployed has more than doubled in the last two years.  Main Street has been hit especially hard.  That is why the Jobs for Main Street Act (H.R. 2847) redirects $75 billion in Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) savings from Wall Street to Main Street to fund infrastructure and job investments, and provide additional emergency funding to help families who are suffering.
Department of Defense Appropriations Act The Department of Defense Appropriations Act (H.R. 3326), introduced by Representative John Murtha, keeps our commitment to our troops and their families during this time of war.
