Dear Friends,
This week, the U.S. Supreme Court will issue a ruling on the
constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. Obamacare). As we
wait, I want to remind you of what this law has already accomplished.
Under the Affordable Care Act:
- In 2011, 32.5 million seniors
received free preventive services.
- So far in 2012, 14 million seniors
have already received these services.
- 54 million Americans in private plans have
received free preventive services.
- 105 million Americans no longer have a
lifetime limit on their coverage.
- Up to 17 million children
with pre-existing conditions can no longer be denied coverage.
- 6.6 million young
adults
up to age 26 have obtained insurance through their parents’ plan.
- 5.2 million seniors and
disabled people
saved $3.7 billion on their prescription drugs, an average of $704
per person.
- In 2011, 360,000 small employers
used the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit to help them afford
health insurance for 2
million workers.
- In 2012 insurance
companies will issue premium rebates averaging $151 to 13 million families.
This is just the beginning.
When the law is fully implemented in 2014, 33 million people who could not previously afford insurance will have coverage everyone will
have more secure healthcare than ever before. Learn more at http://www.healthcare.gov.
No matter what the Supreme Court decides, I will fight to protect the gains we have made in
making healthcare more affordable and more reliable. I know President
Obama will too because Obama cares!
Sincerely,
