Washington, D.C. - In a unanimous vote, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) was elected yesterday to his third term as Chairman of the United States Naval Academy (USNA) Board of Visitors. Wittman released the following statement after accepting the vote of his colleagues on the Board:

“I have been truly honored to serve on the Naval Academy’s Board of Visitors since 2009, including during the last two years as Chairman, and I look forward to continuing to serve in that role. The Naval Academy is one of the finest military institutions in the world, providing a phenomenal education and expert training to thousands of midshipmen preparing to serve their country.  As Chairman of the Board of Visitors, I am committed to ensuring that the quality of the instruction and training provided to our midshipmen remains of the highest caliber. The First District of Virginia is home to 40 current midshipmen, and I am proud to serve them and the many other alumni across Virginia and this great nation.”

According to the USNA, the “duty of the Academy's Board of Visitors is to inquire into the state of morale and discipline, the curriculum, instruction, physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods, and other matters relating to the academy which the Board decides to consider. The board consists of six members appointed by the President, three appointed by the Vice President, four appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, one designated by the Senate Armed Services Committee and one designated by the House Armed Services Committee. The President of the United States receives an annual written report of the Board's findings and recommendations.”

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the First District of Virginia, which has a significant concentration of Naval Academy alumni, including many active Navy and Marine Corps officers serving in the Hampton Roads and Quantico areas. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he is Chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.
