Our nation’s capital is beautiful throughout the year and is a popular vacation spot for people around the world. With the museums, parks and monuments, almost all of which is free, a trip to Washington, D.C. is an enriching historical and cultural experience. If you and your family are planning a trip to Washington D.C please review the information below for more information about visiting the Capitol, White House and other popular attractions.

The United States Capitol
In general, tours are conducted by appointment.  For large groups, advanced notice may be required to set up a tour with the Capitol Visitor’s Center. If you would like to visit the Senate Gallery as well, please contact Senator Chambliss at (202) 224-3521 or Senator Isakson at (202) 224-3643 to request gallery passes. Bureau of Printing and Engraving
Public tours of the Bureau of Printing and Engraving vary by season.  To request a tour, fill out this form or contact Monya Baldwin at (202) 225-5831.

The Kennedy Center
Public tours of the Kennedy Center are conducted Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. as well as Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.  To request a tour, please fill out this form or contact Monya Baldwin at (202) 225-5831.

The National Archives
Public tours of the National Archives are conducted from 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. during the Fall and Winter and from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. in the Spring and Summer with the last admission being 30 minutes prior to closing.  To request a tour, please fill out this form or contact Monya Baldwin at (202) 225-5831.

The State Department
Guided tours are conducted Monday through Friday at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 2:45 p.m.  Tours last 45 minutes and, while most of Washington is very kid friendly, this is a fine arts tour which is not recommended for children under 12.  To request a tour, fill out this form or contact Monya Baldwin at (202) 225-5831

The National Cathedral

The Library of Congress
Public tours of the Library of Congress are conducted Monday through Friday at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. and on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 a.m., and 2:30 p.m.  To request a tour, please fill out this form or contact Monya Baldwin at (202) 225-5831.

The Supreme Court
Public lectures are conducted at the Supreme Court Monday through Friday at 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m, 12:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.  To request a tour, please fill out this form or contact Monya Baldwin at (202) 225-5831.

The White House
Public tours of the White House are available by appointment Tuesday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Due to the high demand, however, tours must be booked one month to six months in advance.  To request a tour, please fill out this form or contact Monya Baldwin at (202) 225-5831.  All tours are subject to approval by the White House and may be denied or canceled due to special events.
NOTE: Touring the White House requires additional security information.  Before any tour can be requested the following information must be submitted for every guest: first name, last name, middle name (if no middle names please put NMN), date of birth, social security number (16 and above only), gender (M or F),  present city and state (city and state must match ID) citizenship ( Y or N) if not US citizen their country of citizenship.  To expedite the process, please consider submitting the information in this format and email it to Monya Baldwin.

The Pentagon
All guided tours of the Pentagon are free and available by reservation only. Tours are conducted Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tours are not conducted on weekends or federal holidays.  To request a tour, click here.

Arlington National Cemetery
Open daily October through March from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and April through September from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier occurs every hour on the hour and every half hour during summer months.

United States Botanic Garden
A living museum that informs visitors about the importance and value of plants to the well-being of humans and our ecosystem, the Botanic Garden is open from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. daily, including all holidays and weekends.  Admission is free.

The Smithsonian Institution
The world’s largest museum and research complex includes 19 museums and galleries as well as the National Zoological Park.  Most Smithsonian museums are free and open every day.  For a complete list and hours of operation, click here.

Holocaust Memorial Museum
A living memorial to the Holocaust, the museum inspires citizens and leaders to confront hatred, prevent genocide, and promote human dignity.  It is open every day from 10:00 a.m. to 5:20 p.m. except Yom Kippur and Christmas Day.

National Geographic Museum
The National Geographic Museum hosts a variety of changing exhibitions that reflect the richness and diversity of our world.  The museum is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily except Christmas.

National Arboretum
The National Arboretum conducts scientific research, education, and maintains gardens that conserve and showcase plants to enhance the environment.  The grounds are open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day of the year except Christmas and admission is free.

National Zoological Park
The 163-acre National Zoo is home to 2,000 animals of nearly 400 different species.  It is open every day of the year except for Christmas and admission is free.  The grounds are open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and while exhibit buildings do not open until 10:00 a.m., animals can often be seen in their outside enclosures as early as 8:30 a.m.

Theodore Roosevelt Island
Theodore Roosevelt Island is a living memorial dedicated to the 26th President of the United States which features several gentle nature trails and a boardwalk which allows visitors to escape from the urban environment.  It is open daily from 6:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. year round.
